A network cable …er, brain circuit …is unplugged
I’ve seen an icon similar to this a lot lately, yet no cable was unplugged. My computer seemed to be continuously trying to connect to the net. If I managed to get connected it was only a short time before I was disconnected again. After switching cables around to confirm it was not a bad cable, I purchased a new router. My connection is better than ever now.
The little flashing icon reminded me of my eyes…
My Behavioral Optometrist has told me that our brain-eye connection is like a circuit that can sometimes loose connection. One of the goals of vision therapy is to repair the circuit.

20/20 vision and all is well
“Your vision is 20/20, we can’t do any better than that!”
So, I surmised, my inability to read very long must not be related to my eyes. After all, my glasses corrected my vision to 20/20. The problem must be my mind.
I’ve got to do better, I thought. I’ve got to get a handle on this. If I just try harder, I can read longer. I would find myself reading the same page over and over…. Continue reading
If your strabismus gets bad enough…
During my 20′s and 30′s I continued to be an avid reader. My family used to quickly steer me away from books when we were shopping. “Don’t let Mom start looking at those books, or we’ll be here all day!”
I had discarded my prism glasses while I was in nursing school. My Ophthalmologist said they would weaken my eye muscles by allowing the eyes to drift and still see. By forcing my eyes to focus without them, I’d be strengthening the eye muscles. Continue reading
Early history of my eyes apart
When I was nine, I was diagnosed with intermittent alternating bilateral exotropia. In the 1950′s there weren’t as many therapies available as now. Mild prisms were put in my glasses to relieve some of the strain, and I was told to move my finger to my nose and watch it to strengthen the muscles. Continue reading
